Design Brief

For this project, I was tasked with studying and exploring typography's fundamentals of expression, control, hierarchy, and mechanics through several layouts that build in intricacy, bound into a Type fundamentals Book. I created 25 unique layouts across five different sections with the Univers font, demonstrating a command of designing with typography.

I sketched ten to fifteen roughs of potential layouts for each section of the book type, scale, axis, graphic elements, and image. Then, I selected the best five roughs and translated them into Indesign, where I reviewed several iterations of each page. The appointed font for this project was Univers with the approved Bold, Light, and Light Oblique, pushing me to explore many different layout compositions. During the project, I was also able to explore layouts with the incorporation of images. For the final section, I created a series of collages to enhance my designs, creating visually engaging layouts.

Final Design

My designs in the Type Fundamental book encase intuitive layouts of typographic elements within a confined space. The book allows me to showcase my type formatting and organizing skills while emphasizing space and hierarchy design in InDesign.
