Ocean Conservation
Design Brief
For this project, I was asked to design a campaign that would modify a behavior or raise awareness about a local and/or social, environmental, political, or health related issue. The main message of the campaign was required to encourage the audience to improve their behavior.
Research
To help my poster design and logo inspiration, I researched ocean conservation organizations as well as wildlife photography showcasing how ocean pollution directly affects marine life on a daily basis. In a single day about eight million pieces of plastic make their way into the ocean. In year 12 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the ocean, in turn killing about 100,000 marine mammals and turtles, as well as one million sea birds.
Design Process
For this project, I created a campaign to raise awareness about an environmental issue. The "Don't Waste In Our Space" campaign tackles ocean pollution. From washing up on our beaches to poisoning marine wildlife and even being found in Arctic Ice, pollution is causing calamitous harm to our oceans and marine life. I choose a color palette that would clearly reflect the ocean wanting to leave no room for interpretation to the audience. While also wanting to refrain from making the colors evoke the same upsetting feeling as the topic. For each individual animal represented in the series, I hand sketched them, then redrew them in procreate. I then placed them into illustrator and adjusted the designs with the pen tool. When selecting a typeface for the project slogan, I knew that I wanted a clean and simple font, leading me to use Helvetica.
